Have a mentioned fall is great for caterpillars?  Peridea is a genus describing several species of caterpillar.  Often found on maple, this one was found under a willow oak.  As with most fall feeding caterpillars their damage is usually minimal.  My son enjoyed carrying this one around on a stick a grossing out his mother for awhile.
