We are frequently asked the question, “When is the best time of year to plant a tree…Spring or Fall?”
Installing/transplanting trees is the most stressful situation a young tree will face; therefore, timing is Absolutely critical for sucess. Although Spring and Fall installations are frequently successful, trees installed during peak dormancy (December to March) retain stored energy and moisture more efficently than thos transplated during the growing season. Optimal timing will reduce the inevitable transplant stress and start the new tree in the right direction.
Trees are planted to serve many different functions, including;
- shade
- privacy
- aesthetics
- celebration of life/memorial
- supporting wildlife
- simply because you love trees
Identifying a tree’s purpose or function my seem obvious, but narrowing down the perfect/appropriate species can be very difficult. Heartwood also encourages naming any new tree you plant to help form a bond 🙂
Many new components of a tree’s installtion impact the long term health, structural integrity and function of the new tree. If you’ve been toying with the idea of introducing a new tree or group of trees to your landscape, we would welcome the chance to discuss and help maximize your new tree’s potential!
HAPPY PLANTING!!!
