Wooly Beech Aphid

July 6, 2013

Beech trees aren’t too common in the Charlotte Metro area, so we don’t hear about too many pest problems with them.  Last week one of our crews brought in this sample from a beech they were working on.  These furry little creeps, the wooly beech aphid, are a pest on beech where they are more common.  Like all aphid species these creeps suck nutrients directly from tree leaves, which can lead to stunning and early leaf drop.  They are great dancers though, so enjoy.
