Hi! This is Patrick George, the founder & proprietor of Heartwood Tree Service since 1979. Back in February of 2017 we introduced you to the looming threat of the Emerald Ash Borer, (EAB). We found it first up Highway 16 on the hiking trails around the Sally YMCA in Denver NC west of Lake Norman. Since then we’ve found it all over Mecklenburg and Buncombe Counties and all places in between. We’ve done radio announcements and sent out special mailings trying to make folks aware of the impending Genocide of the White and Green Ash trees. If you have Ash trees in your yard that leafed out this year, you may still have a chance to cover your Ash (Fraxinus). We feel that the problem is so bad that after this year, if you haven’t treated your Ash or started treating them then it may be too late next year. I would love to be wrong about this.
These are trees at the Broadmoor Golf and event center along the 10th Fairway. Other holes that are impacted are the 9th, 11th and 12th. The course will play differently when these are gone.
I’m preparing myself for the emotional pain I’ll experience from the holes in the sky that will open when these trees become infected. You’ll feel it too! It’s not a matter of IF, but when! We’ve been removing infested Ash trees in North, West and South AVL. The East area into Black Mountain is starting to succumb as well.
Not to mention that my favorite mushroom, the Morel, has a symbiotic relationship with the Ash trees and I witnessed a huge decline in harvest this past Spring around the dead Ash Trees. Woe is me!!! Please call us or your preferred Arboricultural firm to get your Ash under the ongoing protection that will be needed to preserve these denizens. If you’re unsure if you have them, call! Help!
